Hardiness

Extremely hardy plant, deals with cold weather better than most cultivars. Can sunstress into increased fruiting easily, but does not tend to burn.

When to pick it

Halley's Comet reaches peak ripeness 35–40+ days from pollination.

Sweeter if picked very late, but loses all acidity.

Before you buy one

Halley's Comet is not self-fertile. On its own it will flower but not set fruit. It needs pollen from a different variety, applied by hand on the night the flower opens — which takes about a minute and is genuinely enjoyable.

Breeder’s ratings

In order to score a 5/5 for flavor by HDF standards, a fruit must have a perfect balance of acidity & sweetness!
