Hardiness

This is one of the hardiest dragon fruit plants I have seen. It takes full sun all day, along with unrelenting 90% humidity with no shade. Lasted through the "Florida Freeze" with no damage at all. Very heat and cold tolerant.

When to pick it

Purpusii (Mexico) reaches peak ripeness 30–35 days from pollination.

They get slightly sweeter.

Before you buy one

Purpusii (Mexico) is not self-fertile. On its own it will flower but not set fruit. It needs pollen from a different variety, applied by hand on the night the flower opens — which takes about a minute and is genuinely enjoyable.

Breeder’s ratings

In order to score a 5/5 for flavor by HDF standards, a fruit must have a perfect balance of acidity & sweetness!
